2021 Giving report
IN 2021, AS A RESULT OF THE WORK OF THE ALBEN FOUNDATION AND ITS PARTNERS, 392 MORE WOMEN HAVE TAKEN THE LEAP TO BUILD LASTING, HIGH-PAYING CAREERS IN DATA SCIENCE – A FIELD WHERE ONLY 15% OF ITS WORKERS ARE WOMEN. WE ANTICIPATE AN ADDITIONAL 175 MORE ENROLLMENTS BY END OF Q4 2021.
Our student population includes a blend of women with backgrounds in education, arts and humanities, military service, retail, STEM, and more. These students are looking to upskill or reskill into a rapidly growing industry. Of the students who have already graduated, many are getting jobs as machine learning associates, data scientists, and business analysts in top companies including Amazon, Apple, Boeing, and IBM.
To better serve these women, our supported partners have added a variety of wraparound services to promote engagement, build community, improve retention, and enhance the overall student experience. These services include 1:1 coaching, small-group ENTITY forums, career services, and fireside-style webinars with industry experts. Entity Academy students now have access to 1:1 mentor sessions with Data Scientists from Apple, TikTok, SAP, and IBM. These $150/hour sessions are piloted through our partnership with Pathrise, an EdTech company specializing in career preparation for landing jobs in top tech organizations like Google, Amazon, Stripe, and more.
In addition to 1:1 opportunities, our partners have booked and hosted intimate fireside chats with technology leaders from NASA, Google, Disney, and Chipotle – all of whom are helping promote our initiative and mission to place more women in Data Science careers.
Our partners have recently engaged data scientists from JPL-NASA and IBM to create industry-specific modules for our students.
We look forward to expanding our program and are focused on making sure that every student achieves an outcome that enables them to realize both their educational and career goals.
The Alben Foundation supported the Women in Data Science program with $125,000 in 2021.
